Recently I have come across
e.l.f Cosmetics and decided that I would try their products. I accidentally stumbled across the brand when I was scrolling through my Instagram page and decided to browse their website. What I was instantly very surprised about was how cheap all of their makeup was and to top it off, during my research of the brand I discovered that their products are not tested on animals and that the brand is partners with PETA.
Launched in 2004, e.l.f Cosmetics aims to bring affordable beauty to its consumers, ensuring that every women has the "opportunity to participate in innovation, without sacrificing her budget". The brand also doesn't participate in advertising their products, relying on word of mouth to continue to bring in new customers. The brand states that without advertising this allows what they save to be passed on to their customers.
I decided to buy a variety of products from the company, including; Flawless Finish Foundation, Maximum Coverage Concealer, Baked Eyeshadow Trio, Baked Bronzer, Concealer Brush, Foundation Brush and finally as a limited time gift item for ordering any item I also got the Pink Passion Blush. I then tried each of the products, gathering my verdict on each as I went.
Flawless Finish Foundation (Sand) - £7.50
What I really like about this foundation is how smooth its application was. The texture is pretty silky and I was surprised with how well the colour matched my skin tone. As I am moderately fair skinned, I was worried that the product may appear too dark, or orange on my skin which it didn't at all.
Maximum Coverage Concealer (Nude) - £4.50
The concealer packaging states that this colour is suitable for "light skin tones with yellow undertones". As my skin is light I opted for this colour and like my foundation, I was pleasantly surprised with how well it matches my skin tone. Its application is effortless, however I did feel that the product does not offer 100% maximum coverage as it states. Although it managed to cover up my dark circles under my eyes, it did not cover up the birthmark on my face as much as I'd have wanted it to. Overall however I would recommend this product for light blemishes in need of covering.
Baked Bronzer (St. Lucia) - £4.50
This product initially didn't impress me as I used it as more of a powered bronzer, therefore I was getting very little pigment on my brush when it was dry. However after reading the directions of use the product suggests wetting your brush and then applying to areas the sun would naturally hit. After wetting my brush and applying to desired areas I was once again pleased with my final result, the product gave me a very natural wash of colour and gradually allowed me to build up my desired look.
Baked Trio Eyeshadow (Brown Bonanza) - £5
This has quickly become my current favourite eyeshadow. As I have small eye lids not many shades fully suit me so I am limited to the shades I can use, however this is perfect for me and really brings out the colour of my eyes. What I like about this product is it also comes with its own highlighter to apply to the inner corner of your eye to really accentuate your features.
Studio Blush (Pink Passion) - gift itemFinally I applied my gift item. I don't normally wear blush as I feel it washes me out and doesn't give me a very desired natural look, however this blush is a product I would consider adding to my daily beauty regime. The blush is smooth to apply and doesn't feel sticky when on, it is also easy to blend which helped contribute to the natural look I was going for.
